Painter, writer and designer Tomas Muhl was born in Hungary and survived the Holocaust as a child in the Budapest Ghetto. In 1956, during the Hungarian Revolution against Soviet Russian hegemony, braving the Russian tanks and minefields, Tom fled his native country. He went to England where he studies at the Royal Academy of Art. He later moved to the United States where he worked as an award- winning artist and creative director for prominent advertising agencies. Today, he is a successful artist and writer, living in South Florida, dedicated to depicting the beauty and richness of his tropical environment. His recent paintings, now on long-term loan to The Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies, exhibit a sharp contrast between subject and color. Bright hues intertwine with grim storytelling, as the artist depicts the nightmare of a ten year old’s experiences during the Holocaust.
